There are several types of housing available in Canada:

Apartments

Toronto Apartment

These are self-contained, single family unit in a building or house. Most apartments have one, two or three bedrooms; “bachelor” or studio-type units have a combined living area that also serves as a bedroom.

Single-Family Detached

Nova Scotia Single-Family Detached Home

This is a home containing one dwilling unit that stands alone and sits on its own lot which gives a great degree of privacy.

Duplexes or Triplexes

Ottawa Duplex

This is a house that is divided into two or three units. Usually, the owner lives on one unit and the others are rented out.

Row House or Town Houses

Edmonton Townhouse

These are three or more units clustered side-by-side and share adjoining walls. Townhouses may also be stacked which means that the top two floors will consist of a separate unit from the bottom two floors.
