Canada recognizes two primary languages:  English and French. To ensure that the migrants can communicate properly when they settle, a test is conducted to determine the proficiency of an individual.

French and English Language

It is a requirement for the Principal Applicant to take the Language proficiency exam.

For English Language Proficiency,  the IELTS or the CELPIP can be taken.

For French Language Proficiency, the TEF can be taken.

IELTS (International English Language Testing System)

If you are fluent in one language, say English, and you have no French ability, then the maximum points that you can receive is 16 points.
